Weekly Webcomic Wrapup is all squared away

June 29th, 2013 No comments
As seen in the week's webcomics below, Animal Crossing: New Leaf has been the talk of the town lately. It's an excellent game, but I've encountered a problem with it recently: I can't upgrade my house any more than I already have. As a result, I've turned back to my duties as mayor of my town, but it just seems a little less exciting to me. I do have plenty of interior decorating and collecting to do in New Leaf, though, so I'll be able to keep up the alarming amount of "me-time" in the game that I maintain (at least, it's been alarming to my town's citizens).

So, to you readers that are enjoying New Leaf: How are your towns and houses coming along? While you break out your 3DS to snap a screenshot of your progress, check out last week's webcomics and vote for your favorite after the break!

Rude Awakening (Jhall Comics)
Hand me downs (Corpse Run)
Coelacanth (Manly Guys Doing Manly Things)
Deepest mystery (Magical Game Time)
Inconspicuous (Three Dollar Bill)
In The Tall Grass (Dorkly)
Seller's market (Nerd Rage)
Sea Shanty (Ready Soup)

Weekly Webcomic Wrapup is flipping the script

June 22nd, 2013 No comments
This week, Microsoft decided to change course on its DRM policies for the Xbox One, effectively negating any jokes the Internet had about the console's 24-hour check-in requirements. These sorts of widespread decisions by console manufacturers are incredibly rare, and in this case, the mood surrounding the upcoming console seemed to shift along with its DRM policies.

Or did it? That's where our Wrapup question of the week comes in. You tell us, readers: Did Microsoft's decision to change its DRM system for the Xbox One influence your purchasing plans for this holiday season? While you contemplate pre-ordering an Xbox One or a PlayStation 4, check out last week's webcomics and vote for your favorite after the break!

Pockets (Brawl in the Family)
Negotiations (Penny Arcade)
I hope that someone gets my (Virtual Shackles)
E3 2013 (Hejibits)
After E3 (Fanboys)
An Owners Manual (Ready Soup)

Weekly Webcomic Wrapup is wrapping up E3

June 15th, 2013 No comments
We did it, readers. We survived E3 2013. While we still have plenty of leftover goodies from the week to deliver to you (our content ovens have been pre-heating all day), now seems like as good a time as ever to reflect on the news from the week. The EA, Ubisoft, Microsoft and Sony press conferences had a number of big moments that we'll be discussing for a long time, for starters. We've already wrapped up E3 2013 with our friends at Engadget, and your input has fueled plenty of discussions for weeks to come.

So, this wouldn't be fun unless we had you folks help wrap up E3 with us, right? This week's Wrapup question is: What was your favorite announcement, game or moment from E3? While you wrap E3 2013 up in a neat little package, check out last week's webcomics and vote for your favorite after the break! Thank you for sticking with us through this hectic week!

Comic Review: E3 2013 (Brawl in the Family)
Aftermath (Penny Arcade)
All for One (Virtual Shackles)
Passion Ignition (Life in Aggro)
Control Freak (Hejibits)

Weekly Webcomic Wrapup is ready

June 8th, 2013 No comments

Like the swallows returning to Capistrano, so too will the Joystiq staff complete our annual migration to Los Angeles; roosting within the busy halls of the Los Angeles Convention Center for nigh on a week. Our feathers will tuft, our plumage will puff and you'd better believe that we'll regurgitate hot, pre-chewed gaming news into your tiny weird little bird mouths.

Folks, it's time for E3 2013. Hold onto your butts. Oh, and also check out our favorite webcomics from last week, and don't forget to vote for your favorite after the break.

Snowman Set (Brawl in the Family)
Classy (Part 1) (Awkward Zombie)
Mint Some Hints (Life In Aggro)
You and your half-sister Lucy "Lu" Igi have to save him! (Dinosaur Comics)
Friday 4Koma 第134話 (Omake Theater)

Weekly Webcomic Wrapup has the same plan

June 1st, 2013 No comments
With E3 2013 just around the corner, it's time to dust off the ENAE3K. While this is my first year attending the event, I'm passing this survival plan to you, readers. It's particularly useful for the ones staying home and eating sandwiches while refreshing the Joystiq front page. I assure you, I'm already jealous of you sandwich-eaters.

This week's Wrapup question concerns E3: What is one game or feature you think will be revealed at the event, and what is one you hope will be announced? While you pound away at your keyboards, check out last week's webcomics and vote for your favorite after the break!

The Law of the Jungle (Penny Arcade)
Xbox One Nine Eight Four (Virtual Shackles)
Work Ethics (Nerf Now)
Stalking (Awkward Zombie)
This isn't living (SeeMikeDraw)
The 9 Gamers You Play Online (Dorkly)
Xbox One Cloud (Dave the Direman)

Weekly Webcomic Wrapup is The One

May 25th, 2013 No comments
Apologies to Microsoft, but it's impossible for us to hear "Xbox One" and not think of that amazingly terrible movie starring Jet Li. With the way Microsoft continues to compete for that fictitious "lone spot" in the living room, comparisons between The One and the Xbox One seem fitting, though.

Last week, we tried naming the recently-announced system and were way off. This week, we need your help in figuring out what to call the console without referring to it as "Xbone," because that's just ridiculous. No, we don't want to call it "the One," either. While you help us figure out a sensible abbreviated name for the system, check out last week's webcomics and vote for your favorite after the break!

World of Disney (Virtual Shackles)
The Truth About Zebes (Brawl in the Family)
Interloper (Penny Arcade)
Hate Week (Life in Aggro)
If New Game Console Reveals Were Honest (Dorkly)
Kinect One (Dave the Direman)
Way Past Cool (Nerd Rage)
Chocoho (Corpse Run)

Weekly Webcomic Wrapup is naming a new console

May 18th, 2013 No comments
This time around on the Webcomic Wrapup, we're trying to embrace the idea of a new console a little more than before. Considering Microsoft's big Xbox reveal is mere days away, it seems like a good time to have fun playing Fantasy Hardware Manufacturer.

So, this week's question is: If you were in charge of naming the console being unveiled on May 21, what would you call it? While you contemplate just how viable a system named "infinity" is, check out last week's webcomics and vote for your favorites after the break!

Increasingly Damn Late (Penny Arcade)
Card Captor Engie (Nerf Now)
A Berry Important Job (Awkward Zombie)
Nailed It (The Gamercat)
Why it won't be called Xbox Infinity (Another Videogame Webcomic)
The Sims Career Ladder (Dorkly)
Sonic Shredder (Angimoto)
Leave It to Weegee (Life in Aggro)

Weekly Webcomic Wrapup loves BBQ wings

May 11th, 2013 No comments
We need to settle something, Wrapup readers. See, BBQ wings are amazing, right? Whether you're a huge fan of "my face is on fire" levels of heat or you just like a more mild, sweet BBQ sauce, as long as you're a meat-eater, you probably like wings. Wings are great.

Still, there are two groups of people that don't always mix: Those that prefer boneless wings and those that prefer wings with bones. We're not picky, we'll eat both, but let's just say that if a genie were to grant us a lifetime supply of boneless wings at the cost of eradicating wings that have bones for the rest of the world forever, we'd push that big red button in a heartbeat. This week's question: If you eat wings, do you prefer boneless or regular wings? While your stomach churns at the thought of a plateful of delicious finger food, check out last week's webcomics and vote for your favorite after the break!

The Young (Penny Arcade)
The Squeaky Wheel (Brawl in the Family)
Egg Roll (Awkward Zombie)
On the edge (Corpse Run)
True To Yourself (ReadySoup)
Exclusive (Ctrl+Alt+Del)
