Capcom producer for all things
Street Fighter, Yoshinori Ono, dropped a bomb on all of us this weekend when he revealed Capcom's intent to re-release
Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike. We
hypothesized that the game would be distributed digitally -- think: the recently re-released
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 -- and Capcom confirmed to
Eurogamer that the game is indeed a "downloadable title."
No specific platforms were mentioned for the upcoming adaptation, though Xbox Live and PSN are likely safe bets right now. We'll keep you posted as we find out more.
Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike Online will be a 'downloadable title' originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 26 Jul 2010 16:30:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

Capcom's crossover fighting game announcements didn't stop at "Marvel vs. Capcom 3" character reveals at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. The company hosted a panel that went beyond their own offices and unveiled "Street Fight X Tekken," which Capcom will produce and "Tekken X Capcom," which will come from Namco Bandai.
"The Street Fighter and Tekken development teams have a great relationship," Tekken creator Katsuhiro Harada said, according to a CVG report. "However, I see this new project not as a collaboration, but as the competition of the century between two legendary fighting game franchises."
The two game-makers will be taking a different approach to their crossover projects by producing competing games. Both sides seem to be ready to step into the ring though.
"This is history we're making," 'Street Fighter X Tekken' producer Yoshinori Ono said. "Two fighting games that have rivalled each other are finally standing on the same stage. This isn't just a showdown between Tekken and Street Fighter, but a decisive battle for Capcom and Namco Bandai Games. So I'm going to give it my all."
Discussions have been going on for about a year, according to comments Ono made to Famitsu.com, as translated in an Andriasang post. The release date time-frame seems a bit more ambiguous, however, with launches planned for sometime within the next two years.
Who do you think will come out on top, Capcom or Namco Bandai? Do you plan on playing as Street Fighter or Tekken combatants? Share your reactions in the comment section below.

Capcom didn't just announce
two Street Fighter games in yesterday's Comic-Con panel -- that would
hardly have been worth holding a panel. Producer Yoshinori Ono also announced that the company is working on
Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online, an updated re-release of the 1999 arcade/Dreamcast game.
It's "not going to come out in the immediate future," Ono told the crowds already daydreaming about online
Q matches, "but just let everyone know that Street Fighter 3 is coming back." He didn't have any more details, simply directing suggestions to
Capcom-Unity. It seems relatively safe to assume that an online-focused fighting game is being considered at least for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, probably as a digital release like
Marvel vs. Capcom 2.

According to Event Hubs, Capcom producer Yoshinori Ono recently dropped a fairly sizable bomb on attendees of the company's "Street Fighter Mania!: SSFIV and Beyond" panel at Comic-Con:
Street Fighter X Tekken. The oft-rumored project will be developed by Capcom using the
Street Fighter IV engine (only with two-fighter tag team battles), and will feature a number of fighters from Namco's similarly successful fighting franchise, including Kazuya and Nina Williams.
But that's not all! Ono also revealed that Namco Bandai would be developing
Tekken X Street Fighter, which will be developed in-house at Tekken, and spearheaded by long-time franchise producer Katsuhiro Harada. Both titles will be released for 360 and PS3, though according to a cheeky slide at the end of the presentation, the current release window is "not for a while!"

The "Street Fighter 4" series may end with "Super Street Fighter 4," but that doesn't necessarily mean that Capcom is done adding new warriors to the their latest SF title. In fact, a new Japanese advertisement for the "Super Street Fighter 4" arcade machine contains a cryptic tease that may leave the door open for new challengers.
"Here comics new challengers?!" the flyer, which was posted on Kotaku, reads. Furthermore, the Japanese text there promises "The Appearance Of New Challengers!" as it's translated in the report.
Since newbies to "SSF4" like Ibuki and Dee Jay are already featured, it's entirely possible that a few more characters are being worked in.
It is of course also possible that the message is just targeted toward "Street Fighter 4" arcade machine players and the flyer just wants to make sure that they know these new guys and gals in the pictures have been added. Nevertheless, Capcom has every incentive to want to make the SF faithful leave their console games at home for an afternoon and pump some coins into their new units.
As long as Hakan appears, no matter what the case may be, the "SSF4" arcade edition will get my quarters whenever I see it.
Who would you like to see added if Capcom puts new challengers in "SSF4"? Do you want to see original characters? Share your responses in the comment section below.

Capcom came through with those additional fighters in a new update for "Street Fighter 4" on iPhone. If you visited the App Store in the last day or so and downloaded the recommended content, you should now see Zangief and Cammy on the character select screen.
Any of you who have struggled in the past while attempting to pull off Zangief's Atomic Buster combos or Cammy's Drive Smasher combos will most certainly appreciate the one-button (plus directional controls) special combos with both of them, just as you did with the game's first wave of characters.
Additionally, if you happen to be playing this game on an iPhone 4 today, it runs very, very smoothly. The performance was great on the 3GS, but the difference for folks such as myself who upgraded from a 3G is noticeable.
Now that Capcom has given us these two new faces, the question is, will we see anyone else showing up in the near future? I would love to see Capcom do what they balked at for "Street Fighter 4" on consoles and keep a steady wave of DLC trickling out via updates.
Who would you like to see come to "SF4" on the iPhone if Capcom makes more character updates? Anything else you'd like to see augmented? Share your responses in the comment section below.

According to Andriasang’s translation of a post on Capcom’s Japanese blog, the developer is planning to roll out a patch for Super Street Fighter IV on June 15 — the same day as the release of the game’s Tournament Mode DLC — which will remove a few exploits and address some balancing issues players have discovered since the title’s launch. For the full list of (highly technical) changes included in the update, just click past the jump.
The patch remedies a few sizable issues, such as the unblockable Ultra exploit — however, it doesn’t return E. Honda’s “Thousand-Hand Bitch Slap” maneuver to its original, unbeatable glory. Hopefully that particular fix will come in a later update.

As promised, the full version of the
Street Fighter Legacy short film has been released. You can watch it after the break or click
here to see it in resolutions up to 1080p.
We're happy to report that Joey Ansah, Owen Trevor and Streetlight Films have figured out the secret formula for making a good
Street Fighter movie: make it really short. There's no time for terrible dialogue, shoehorned character cameos or questionable characterization in this three-minute film. There's just time for one beautifully shot fight sequence between Ryu and Ken ... which makes sense for a movie based on a fighting game.
