Tomb Raider on sale for $14 at Green Man Gaming

May 24th, 2013 No comments
Frugal survivalists can enlist in Lara Croft's prequel adventure, Tomb Raider, for $13.60 today. The deal is over on PC digital distribution outlet Green Man Gaming, which has the Crystal Dynamics reboot currently listed at $17 - simply add coupon code "GMG20-LLASD-D8WBQ" (without quotes, boldness is entirely up to you) in the checkout screen and you'll get the extra-reduced price.

In our review of Tomb Raider, we cited the joy of exploration and story's revelatory crescendo as catalysts for our love of Lara's coming-of-age tale. "The arc is drawn perfectly, with the edges of the old Tomb Raider starting to poke through as the story comes to a close, teasing what's yet to come." Several DLC packs have been issued, adding new maps and modes to the multiplayer side of the game. Crystal Dynamics has said it has no plans to offer single-player DLC.

Square Enix Launches Online Store, Empties Geek’s Wallets

May 23rd, 2013 No comments

Until I can purchase a spiky, foam, blonde wig for cosplaying Cloud or an officially licensed Besaid Aurochs Blitzball then I have absolutely no use for the grand opening of Square Enix's online store. But if you're interested in the fantastic plastic figures from the awesome Play Arts Kai series or adorable Chocobo plushies, then you'll find them in one convenient location.

Additonally, pre-orders are now open for THE DARK KNIGHT TRILOGY PLAY ARTS -KAI- BATMAN which will be a SDCC exclusive. He's got a pretty sweet metalic finish and if the other PRK figures are any indication, will sell out in the blink of an eye.

May 23rd, 2013 No comments

You know Nintendo Direct - now meet Square Enix Presents. That's the name of the company's live-at-E3 video series, which it'll be broadcasting via YouTube.

Square Enix Presents promises coverage on the company's E3 line-up, which is expected to include the new Final Fantasy for PS4. It'll also feature dev interviews, game demos, and presentations on upcoming content. And, apparently, lots of chocobo music.

The shows will run across all three main days of the conference, which are June 11-13.

Report: Square Enix America CEO leaves, joins Amazon

May 23rd, 2013 No comments
hit 1st Report Square Enix America president is out
Square Enix America CEO Mike Fischer left the company this month and is now vice president of digital music and video for Amazon in Japan, Polygon reports. This follows news in April that Square Enix America eliminated "a number of positions" and Fischer was expected to leave in May. Those same reports said the head of marketing should be gone after E3, along with other employees in public relations.

In March, Square Enix President Yoichi Wada stepped down and the company announced widespread restructuring that it expected to cost $106 million. Square Enix posted a net loss of $134 million for fiscal year 2013, citing "weak" sales of major console games, including Sleeping Dogs, Hitman: Absolution and Tomb Raider, the last of which sold 3.4 million in its first month.

Thief sneaks onto Xbox One

May 21st, 2013 No comments
Thief coming to Xbox One
Eidos Montreal confirmed through its official Tumblr today that Thief will be coming to Xbox One. The game, first announced in 2009, was confirmed for PS4, PC and other next-gen consoles in March, which we can now take to mean the next-generation Xbox revealed today.

The Thief reboot reportedly suffered many setbacks during its five-year development period, including significant turnover in staff at Eidos Montreal. The developer included a "glimpse" at the next-gen game in its Tumblr post in the form of a screen with an alarming amount of fire in it.
