July 1st, 2013 No comments
Battlefield 3 is this week's free PS Plus game
PlayStation Plus subscribers can download Battlefield 3 for free after tomorrow's store update. Other free PS Plus games set aside for July include Jet Set Radio, Metal Slug XX, Dokuro and Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee HD.

PlayStation pals across the pond can add Battlefield 3 to their Instant Game collections sometime during July, though Sony Europe hasn't given a precise date yet. Saints Row: The Third, which wielded its purple dildo against Plus subscribers in North America last month, is also on the way to Europe.

Call of Duty Ghosts gets rickety skyscraper as preorder bonus

It’s preemptive business as usual with Call of Duty: Ghosts, which now boasts a incentive in the form of a multiplayer map. Dubbed “Free Fall,” the freebie environment is meant to reflect the dynamic events that characterize and alter the environments in this iteration of Call of Duty’s multiplayer suite.

Taking place in the halls of a skyscraper on the verge of collapse, Free Fall represents “just one of the many new approaches we’re putting into Ghosts’ multiplayer across the board,” says Executive Producer Mark Rubin. “There’s so much more that we look forward to sharing in the weeks to come.”

The weeks to come – between now and the game’s , 360 and 3 launch on November 5 – will likely be spent cleaning up the wide-scale urban damage left after ’s skyscraper motion-capture session.

Proteus brings natural, pixelated beauty to PS3, Vita this fall

July 1st, 2013 No comments
Proteus headed to PS3, Vita this fall
Proteus, the award-winning exploration experiment, will join the growing list of indies gracing PS3 and Vita this fall. Curve Studios, developer of Stealth Bastard Deluxe, is working with developers Ed Key and David Kanaga to bring Proteus to Sony's platforms. Proteus launched on PC and Mac in January (and later on Linux).

Proteus offers a procedurally generated universe of exploration and is, in a sense, the epitome of an indie game. It's a beautiful world backlit by a soothing yet energetic soundtrack that the player creates as he explores all four seasons of a pastel island. It's a digital, on-screen experience that conveys just as much about the grandeur of nature as a real-life camp out. It's experimental and it has no classic "game" elements: no score, no leaderboards, no checkpoints.

"Here at Curve we've been working with Ed to make the PS Vita and PS3 versions even better than the original, and over the next few months we're going to have more information on how we're using the power of PS3 and PS Vita to bring the absolute best Proteus experience to you guys," Curve Marketing Manager Rob Clarke writes on the PlayStation Blog.

If you can't wait for Proteus on PS3 or Vita, it's available for $10 now on Steam, and supports Big Picture mode.

Ethan Meteor Hunter follows the trail to PS3 this summer

French indie outfit Seaven Studio is working on Ethan: Meteor Hunter, coming to PS3 this summer.

In this puzzle-platformer, titular star Ethan is hunting down meteorite fragments across 50 levels spanning three different worlds. Ethan is no ordinary bipedal mouse - he can freeze time and manipulate objects through telekinesis, thanks to being struck by a meteor himself.

Ethan: Meteor Hunter is also vying for a Steam launch through Greenlight right now. Though it may be the studio's first game, Seaven Studio's seven employees originally worked at Hydravision Entertainment, helping to produce Obscure, Obscure 2 and the Wii and PS2 ports of 2008's Alone in the Dark reboot.
