What Is America Famous For? [Note]

RE: GDC: Day Zero
Mini-Bash has started to write complete sentences. So this afternoon he drew pictures of flags from different countries and then wrote a sentence or two stating what they were famous for.
When he got to America, he asked me. I said "baseball, jazz, rock 'n' roll, hamburgers, blue jeans..." And Mrs. Bashcraft chimed in, "guns, atomic weapons and more guns". She was kidding. I think.
Fascinating how others see the States and how Americans see it themselves.

Re: I AM NOT DEAD...YET!
Myself, Mike McWhertor and Stephen Totilo are all flying out to San Francisco tomorrow to start our GDC coverage. It will be fantastic, informative and, I hope, entertaining.
The schedule is packed from breakfast to midnight snacks with interviews, gameplay sessions, hands-ons, lectures and parties. I'm still not sure if there will be any HUGE news coming out of the show, but I think it will be one that people should keep an eye on.
And don't forget, it's on Saturday too and we're all sticking around till the bitter, bitter end.
Now, show me your gaming roots!

Went and got my annual physical today. Always get nervous before physicals, bracing myself for the BAD NEWS. Guess I'm okay, the doctor didn't mention anything.

Out for a jog on the Willamette today I was passed by a kid, riding no-hands on a BMX bike - and doing Sudoku. If that's not multitasking, I don't know what is.

Five Pounds in One Day [Note]
To: Ash
From: Crecente
Every three or four years for most of my adult life I get hit with this bizarre, and very nasty, stomach bug. It usually hits me in the evening and has in the past always resulted in my being taken to the emergency room where a doctor declares that he has never seen anyone as dehydrated as me.
I guess I can mark it off my leap year calendar now, because I spent yesterday in bed concentrating on trying not to expunge what little liquid I managed to sip between clenched teeth. The bug struck about 3 a.m. Thursday morning and didn't leave until I'd say about the same time Friday.
Today I woke up feeling rested but worn. I got on the scale to discover I had lost five pounds in one day. I know it was one day because I weighed myself two mornings before to see how my fitness program was going.
I guess that's what happens when your entire intake for 30 hours or so is a 20 ounce bottle of water... and you don't finish it.

RE: Any Doctors On Board Kotaku?
Read this story about Princess Aiko, granddaughter of the emperor of Japan, has been having problems at school being bullied. Apparently, she's even missed a few days of class because of it.
Feel sorry for her! Hope she gets everything straightened out. Bullying seems to be a big problem in Japanese schools. Even royals are susceptible.

Re: But Do I Hate Japan?
We've got a guy here with an upset stomach. It's not pretty. The man is in his 30s, I think. Black hair. About shoulder length. He says he's been feeling ill since last night. Hasn't been able to do his job most of the day. Called in sick. He thinks it might be something he ate, but it's not clear. Sort of a mystery malady.
We notice that he's a PS3 owner and it is possible his gaming system suffered the same sort of shutdown earlier in the week. Could be related.
If anyone here is a doctor, please help.

RE: Hump Day
Before the talk about hate... Do you know why there was no heavy rain today? No, I'm not talking about the PS3 game...nor about where you are per se. Sorry!
When I woke up this morning, I found that Mini Bash had made a teru teru bozu (which I've talked about before!). It was supposed to rain hard today, and he had a field trip. He went to Kyoto Prefecture to go look at trains with his school.
Which sounds like a totally awesome field trip.
It did rain today, but in hopes of avoiding a heavy rain, he made this. And viola, there were only scattered light showers!
Oh, and do I hate Japan? Let me put it this way. There are things I hate about Japan. There are also things I hate about America. There are just fewer things I hate about Japan than I hate about the U.S., hence me living in Japan. :) And I honestly do not think Tim hates Japan in the least. On the contrary, I think he likes the country and the people very much.
For me I guess... I can't really pick up and leave Japan, you know? This is my home. I bought a condo here! My oldest son doesn't really know English and totally considers himself Japanese. He lasted about three days in America, eating only American food.
Japanese culture and language are different, sure. But, all in all, people are the same. They have the same aspirations, talk about the same shit, tell the same stupid jokes.
Venting about where one lives is fine, and I do not think that should be discouraged. I think it's silly to chastise one for doing that. How can we know what we like if we never talk about what we don't like?
