When you see the stuff Japan's
Club Nintendo offers its members, you may be prone to drool a bit. Ironically, Nintendo of Japan's loyalty program has something for that now as well.
For 150 points, Club Nintendo is offering the choice of one of these three 25cm x 25cm "towel handkerchiefs." They're part towel and part handkerchief, but at the same time
neither, because none of us would dare dry or clean anything with one of these. Since they're currently only available in Japan, of course, we don't even have the opportunity to
decline to mop up a spilled soda with one of these cute collectibles.

Shake off that sense of
deja vu. We're talking about a different
Cabela's game here: Activision has just
announced Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2011, the next installment in its iterative series of hunt-em-down-and-shoot-em-ups. It's set to stalk retail shelves "late fall" and will be available on the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and DS systems. Every version sans the DS installment will come packed with
the Top Shot Elite controller, a wireless gun peripheral created by the same people at Activision who brought you the
Guitar Hero controllers.
Activision is apparently putting a lot of production value into this latest
Cabela's title, tapping Brad Santos, screenwriter and creative director, to pen the tale of Cole Rainsford, who has joined his estranged father in the African safari to hunt dangerous animals terrorizing local villages there. See, kids? Hunting is a
noble pursuit.
Feel free to track some screens from the upcoming game (and the controller) in our gallery below. If you prefer your game a bit more
lively, then head past the break for a teaser trailer.

Virtual Play Games unearthed a collection of ancient relics, believed to have been called "Intellivision games" in their time. To allow modern audiences to examine these historical artifacts for themselves, Virtual Play has built a mobile exhibition called
Intellivision Lives!, which requires only a Nintendo DS for admission. In other words, the publisher's putting a bunch of old games on a DS cartridge and selling it this September.
The collection includes classics like
Astro Smash, Armor Battle, Night Stalker and
Shark! Shark! (a precursor of
Flow), as well as six
unreleased games, for a total of 60 titles from Mattel's console. The DS touchscreen substitutes for the Intellivision controller's number pad, with an image of each game's custom controller
overlay!
The last we heard of this project, it had been
banished from DSiWare. It'll finally be out (as a cartridge-based game) this September, and we'll get a chance to play ... these games that have been out since 1982.

This message is for the many Joystiq readers who are also in charge of business development at game publishing companies -- or for those few impulsive,
wealthy Joystiq readers eager to start a new business venture at the drop of a hat.
You see, there's this DS game
Fractured Soul. It takes the "two worlds on two screens" concept (as seen in titles like
Reflection and
Chronos Twins) and makes a fast-paced arcade experience out of it, with the player shifting back and forth at high speed in both platforming and shmup levels. Unfortunately, we can't play it,
because developer
Endgame Studios needs a publisher. N3V Games has already
signed on for Australia, so that leaves ... everywhere else in the world.
That's where
you come in. Watch the trailer after the break and give it some thought.

Look, America isn't blessed with the near-universal dependence on public transportation and cultural adoption of Square Enix's portable games that makes using
Dragon Quest IX's "Tag mode" and other networking features worthwhile. Rather than let our nation's
DQIX-playing community steam in a broth of its own jealousy, Nintendo will attempt to rally players together in the one centralized location with which they're all likely familiar:
their local Gamestop.
This coming Saturday, July 31,
select Gamestops will be hosting an all-day event where potential
Quest-ers can check out a demo for the game, meet up with other players to wirelessly exchange bonuses, and download the "Zoma" treasure map, which has yet to come stateside. Similar events will be held at Best Buys across the country August 7, as well as select shopping malls every weekend until September 19. That sure beats turning on Tag Mode, then aimlessly walking the streets like some kind of sad
Dragon Quest IX panhandler.

When
rumors were flying about a
GoldenEye remake just before E3, both a Wii and DS version were supposedly in the re-works. But when Nintendo and Activision
made it official during the expo, only the Daniel Craig-ified Wii game was announced (despite the DS logo also appearing on the
official game page). Today, the DS version of
GoldenEye 007 showed up again, this time in Nintendo's upcoming releases calendar, which joined the company's
quarterly earnings report.
Following the appearance, we confirmed with Activision that a DS iteration of
GoldenEye 007 is in fact in development and will be released alongside the Wii game later this year. The handheld version will be developed by perpetual mobile game port house
n-Space; though an Activision representative emphasized to us, "it's not a port." Additionally, both Daniel Craig (Bond) and Judi Dench ("M") will voice their characters in the DS game. We were tempted to ask about John Cleese, but then we remembered he's busy doing
other, likely wonderful voice work at the moment.

Nintendo has announced it financial earnings for the second quarter in its Fiscal 2011, running from April 1, 2010 through June 30, 2010. Net sales, operating income and net income all saw declines compared to the same time last year. Net sales were down to 188 billion yen ($2.16 billion) from 253 billion yen ($2.9 billion), while operating income and net income saw less dramatic shifts, down to 23 billion yen ($264 million) and 25 billion yen ($287 million) from 40 billion yen ($460 million) and 42 billion yen ($483 million) last year, respectively. Nintendo attributes these losses to the appreciation of the yen and a lower DS price point.
3.15 million DS units and 22.42 million units of DS software were sold worldwide during this quarter. On the Wii side,
Super Mario Galaxy 2 managed to be the big performer, selling 4.09 million units worldwide since its launch in late May. 3.04 million Wii consoles were sold, backed by 28.17 million units of Wii software worldwide. As far as forecasted earnings go, Nintendo anticipates net sales of 550 billion yen ($6.3 billion) by the end of September 2010 and 1.4 trillion yen ($16 billion) by the end of its Fiscal 2011, March 2011.
It'll be interesting to see how those earnings are affected by Nintendo's upcoming
3DS hardware launch. The company has revealed (via
Bloomberg) that it'll finally announce the launch date and price for its latest piece of tech in Japan on September 29.

Capcom experienced
another "sluggish" performance in its latest financial quarter -- the first of Fiscal 2010, from April 1 to June 30 -- and consequently blamed slow growth of
Lost Planet 2 sales, among other things. Net sales for the quarter were down 2.4 percent year-over-year at 19 million yen ($219 million) and net income dropped a dramatic 90 percent from last year to the tune of 213 million yen ($2.5 million).
Although titles like
Super Street Fighter IV and
Monster Hunter Frontier Online showed what Capcom calls "steady growth,"
LP2 and
Monster Hunter Tri only sold at a "sluggish pace." The first two weeks of
Ghost Trick sales were also met with disappointment, although the game
premiered at number two in its first week of Japanese sales.
The Japanese publisher also lamented "shrinking" US and European markets "under the stagnating economy," as well as fluctuating exchange rates. Though sales across the board were lower than expected, Capcom considers its financial forecast for this fiscal year to be unaffected.

Syd Bolton, who runs the
Personal Computer Museum in Brantford, Canada,
really enjoys
Dragon's Lair in all its many, many incarnations. Bolton owns almost every version of
Dragon's Lair ever released, which is saying
a lot considering that game has been ported more times over the last 30 years than a Carnival Cruise ship. However, he hasn't got them all, telling Joystiq that he's missing the mobile phone version from 2005 (because it wasn't available in his area) and the
Amstrad CPC versions from the mid-'80s.
The picture above contains 47 versions of the game and its sequels. Bolton mentions that the image doesn't contain the whole collection, as a few copies are in storage. We've listed every copy of the game featured in the picture after the break.
