More Insanely-Detailed Resident Evil 5 Figures [Toys]

September 30th, 2009 No comments

Hong Kong's master toysmiths, Hot Toys, have added two more figures to their line of Resident Evil 5 12" figures: another Wesker, and another Chris Redfield, only this time in their throwback unis.

Both will be out early next year, and expect both to be on the pricey side.

Atlus bringing Zeno Clash: Ultimate Edition to XBLA in March ’10

September 30th, 2009 No comments
If you missed ACE Team's first-person melee title, and indie darling, Zeno Clash on PC earlier this year you'll have a second chance next March when the title comes to Xbox Live Arcade, courtesy of publisher Atlus. This won't be a straight port, however: "New modes -including all-new cooperative mode for the Tower Challenges -new features, and added content combine with a series of tweaks and improvements based on fan feedback to deliver the definitive version of the critically-acclaimed game." No word on if these "definitive" changes will make their way back to the original PC release.

Of course the Chile-based ACE Team is also hard at work developing the game's sequel so perhaps some of the tweaks in Ultimate Edition may reveal what's in store for the next iteration of the game. And with that, we add another title to the always growing list of Q1 2010 releases we have to play.

Tell me: Are you a bad enough dude to chicky chicky down?

September 30th, 2009 No comments

Tell me: Are you a bad enough dude to chicky chicky down? screenshot

Game Watch just gave me another reason to want a Japanese DSi. This newly announced bit of DSiWare, entitled Time Diagnosis, looks like it could easily fill the WarioWare shaped hole that (in my opinion) the service currently suffers from.

My Japanese is awful, so I asked around the Dtoid offices to see what this game's all about. According to Topher, the site says that Time Diagnosis is a collection of "chicken" mini-games: see how long you can drop out of a plane before pulling your parachute, see how far you can fill a glass without it spilling over, drive as fast as you can toward a cliff and try to stop at the last possible second, etc. If you manage to pull out win time, the game gives you a percentage score to rate how chicken you are.

Also, something in the description says "chicky chicky down." Don't be surprised to hear me saying that over and over again for the next couple of years.

So yeah, I want this game. Get on that, Western videogame publishers.

SIlent Hill Writer Sentenced For Vehicular Manslaughter [Hollywood]

September 30th, 2009 No comments

Roger Avary, who received an Oscar for Pulp Fiction and who wrote the Silent Hill movie, is headed to jail for gross vehicular manslaughter. He was sentenced to a year in prison and five years probation.

In the fatal crash last year with Avary at the wheel, a hundred mph drunken driving crash left Avary's friend Andreas Zini dead and his wife in critical condition. Zini had recently wed and was visiting from Italy. His wife, Maria, was in another car.

Avary has settled with Zini's family in a civil suit for $4.1 million.

"It has profoundly altered me to the very core of my being," Avary said in the Ventura County Court.

Earlier this month, Avary signed on to write upcoming film Silent Hill 2.

PSN Thursday: All systems are PSP Go for a massive update

September 30th, 2009 No comments

If a PSN Update could be a classified as a zombie invasion, consider this humble paragraph the red door keeping the horde at bay. Once you click past the break, be prepared for an update the likes of which you've never seen. It's big, it's scary and it's going to eat your brains ... in a good way.

Choose your platform to view the corresponding release list:

(Note: Continue past the break to view both release lists.)

Denerim and blood: the latest Dragon Age: Origins trailer

September 30th, 2009 No comments

Denerim and blood: the latest Dragon Age: Origins trailer screenshot

Denerim. It’s the capital city of Fereldin, the magical fantasy-land that Dragon Age: Origins is based in. Described as a place of “history and antiquity,” it’s probably the place players will spend the majority of their time mulling about before journeying forth to do manly stuff like killing wretched beasts or courting witch-vampire-lady-things. The teaser above shows a bit of the city and even reveals a bit of plot.

Also, there’s blood and a second or two of Marilyn Manson’s pathetic screaming.

The official release reminds us that Origins releases soon. And indeed it does. The Xbox 360 and PC versions are slated for a November 3rd release, while the PS3 version should hit November 13th. If you need some help deciding if Origins is up your alley before it releases, feel free to read our full preview. No tags for this post.

Dude, relive the 90s with these rad game ads

September 30th, 2009 No comments

Dude, relive the 90s with these rad game ads screenshot

Our friends over at Bitmob recently scrounged up some ancient videogame magazines that date all the way back to the mid 1990s, and yes, they were nice enough to share their shocking archeological find with us.

Depending on where you live, it's probably way past your bedtime, so allow me to express my thoughts on a few of these game ads in bullet point form:

  •  The only way to successfully attract my attention is to use violently bright colors the likes of which my eyes have never seen
  • I owned one of those Power Rangers LCD handhelds. Using barcodes to change the action EVERYTIME was exactly as sh*tty as you'd imagine it would be
  • In retrospect, Wolfenstein 3D would have been cooler if B.J. Blazkowicz was blind
  • My burning desire to play every game with "super" in the title almost caused me to rent Super Alfred Chicken once. Almost

If any of you happen to be in the business of making coffee book tables, here's my bright idea that I totally didn't just come up with fifteen seconds ago: go out and create a book filled with nothing but aged videogame ads. Would that not be the perfect lazy Christmas gift for a geek close to your heart?

PSP firmware 6.10 is live and ready to Go

September 30th, 2009 No comments

Version 6.10 of Sony's handheld's firmware announced earlier this evening is now ready for download. Hit the System Update option from the Settings section of your XMB, download, install and let us know what you think of the "mood music" SensMe whips up from your song library. Much to our disappointment, initial testing reveals that Sony didn't implement our "I just made an expensive impulse purchase" mood after all.
